President's Day 19 July 2025
Update 22 June 2026 - (John Prattley)
In view of the excessive heat this week and the advice below, the league matches have been postponed and roll ups on Monday & Wednesday have been cancelled. Temperatures are not forecast to drop until Saturday so a decision will be made later in the week as to whether the friendly match will go ahead. Although this is disappointing, the safety of all players is paramount and the temperatures this week are unprecedented for June.
Bowls Leicestershire have issued the following instructions for playing matches in extreme heat conditions. We will leave this on the Club News page of the website for easy reference.
Following a recent spell of very hot weather where we needed for cancel all County Competitions at late notice the Bowls Leicestershire Board have decided on that following Hot weather guidelines which will apply for all County matches and Competitions.
-
If there is an official Amber or Red Hot weather warning in force for the arranged day of play which is still current on the day before the arranged date, then the matches must be rearranged.
-
Also, regardless of whether there is an Official alert, if the temperature is predicted the day before you are expecting to play, is over 28 degrees on the playing date then, the players can agree to re- arrange the match.
-
If the temperature is predicted to be over 30 degrees, then the match must be re- arranged.
-
If County Competitions are postponed the home team must contact the competition secretary to discuss timings for re- arranged matches.
As we are expecting more very warm weather shortly, can you please ensure all your affected players are aware of this.
Club Secretaries should also note that although this email refers to County Competitions and Matches, similar care should be taken with all other club bowling. i.e. club friendlies, league matches, and roll ups.
We started the league games with an impressive 8-0 victory at home to New Lount, which saw our Over 60s team return to the top of the table. The Thursday Triples side lost 6-2 to New Lount A and are current sitting third from bottom, but the lower half of the league is very close.
We welcome our friends from Quorn on Saturday with a visitors gaining an 88-66 win. Always lovely to play against Quorn and they were very appreciative of the excellent cakes baked by Linda, which were supplemented this week by some very tasty home grown strawberries provided by Richard Clayton - many thanks Linda & Richard!
Whitwick Park had a great 2025 and a summary of our season appears below
